Supporting our charity

Thank you for your interest in supporting the work of Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland.

As the year end approaches for many businesses, you might find yourself with surplus funds in your charitable donation budget or are looking to make a donation for tax relief purposes so please consider supporting our work.

Your organisation can become a Beacon of Hope to a young person struggling with a mental health issue or at immediate risk of self-harm in 2024.

A small donation can go a long way.  Your donation can help fund crisis counselling sessions, our 24/7 crisis information services, and our Let's Talk programme for schools, students, teachers and parents through 2024.  Your donation can bring a glimmer of light to a young person struggling in silence.

About Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland

Now in our 17th year, Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland (YSPI) is a charitable organisation founded in 2007 with a specific focus on addressing the issues of youth suicide and self-harm in Ireland. The organisation operates independently, receiving no funding from the state. Instead, it relies entirely on financial support from personal and corporate donors who trust our Trustees to use their contributions effectively.

As of 1st November 2023 it cost 11 cents per euro to run the charity. This means that 89% of the funds we receive are available to support programmes like the Let's Talk Programme and our Youth Crisis Counselling Service. The main administrative expenditures of the charity are insurance and auditing.

The charity's Board of Trustees is composed of volunteers who do not receive any salary or compensation for their time and service. They are independent of each other and have no familial relations.  The Trustees have no direct access to charity funds but have 24/7 access to the financial records and books to ensure transparency and proper use of donations.

The charity has no mortgages or major outstanding debts and strives to maintain cash reserves of 10% of annual income for emergencies.

There are only two contracted staff members, both trained facilitators who provide the Schools Mental Health Awareness Programme throughout the country. They are paid approximately €25,000 per year each.  Additionally, the charity employs a part-time bookkeeper to manage accounts and independent auditors to verify the completeness and accuracy of financial statements.

Our commitment to transparency is evident in the availability of our 2022 Annual Report and Audited Financial Statements, which can be viewed and downloaded from our main charity website HERE

The charity is registered with the Irish Charities Regulator under registration number 20070670 and can be verified on the regulator's website at www.charitiesregulator.ie.  We are also registered as a tax-exempt charitable trust by the Irish Revenue Commissioners under charity number CHY18438 and are an approved body under the Charities Donation Scheme.

PLEASE SUPPORT US

Tax Relief on Donations over €250.

Under the Revenue Commissioners' "Scheme of Tax Relief for Donations of Money or Designated Securities to 'Eligible Charities' and other 'Approved Bodies'" (CHY2) Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland has been an "Eligible Charity" since December 2010 and, as such, any corporate donations made to us over €250 would be subject to tax relief as if it were a trading expense.

Donations made under this scheme must be on a no profit basis, i.e. the donor derives no benefit from the donation. The charity can confirm this by issuing a CHY2 Donation Receipt to the donor.

Our donation scheme status can be confirmed at https://revenue.ie/en/corporate/documents/statistics/registrations/authorised-charities-resident.pdf

In our 17 years working with young people across Ireland we have never experienced such a high volume of mental health support requests.  First it was COVID, then Ukraine, then a cost of living crisis and now Gaza, our young people are getting no opportunity to recover in a world with so many anxieties coming at them.
